After a long and anticipated of-fseason, the No. 6 Florida Gators men’s basketball team returns to the hardwood and tips off their 2019-20 season. The Gators open their season on their home court against the North Florida Ospreys Tuesday night at 7 p.m.

The Gators return a number of key contributors and have some fresh faces destined to make significant impacts. With the season set to get underway, it’s time to take a look at how Florida’s depth chart could shake up throughout the year.

Point Guard

  • Andrew Nembhard 6’5”/193 – After testing NBA Draft waters, Nembhard decided to return to school for his sophomore year. Working with Team Canada over the summer, it appears his all-around game has improved and should be amongst the top point guards in the conference.
  • Ques Glover 5’11”/176 – Lost amongst the blue-chip prospects in Florida’s loaded recruiting class is Glover. An underrated, scrappy, defensive guard could turn out to be a gem for Mike White down the road.

Shooting Guard

  • Tre Mann 6’4”/172 – One of the Gators McDonald’s All-American signees from a year ago, Mann offers Florida a guard who can score in an abundance of ways. If he comes around defensively, he should be given every chance to be an impact freshman.
  •  Alex Klatsky 6’3”/189 – A walk-on taken in the last signing class, Klatsky is a knock-down shooter. Likely only to be seen in garbage time, Klatsky will become the next fan-favorite off the bench this year, but could have an increased role down the road.

Shooting Guard/Small Forward

  • Noah Locke 6’3”/207 – Another returning face is the Gators best shooter from a year ago, Noah Locke. The Baltimore native knocked down 81 three-pointers, a freshman record in the program. Shooting 38% from beyond the arc last year, Locke should continue to grow as a lethal shooter.
  • Scottie Lewis 6’5”/185 – The other McDonald’s All-American that came to Gainesville is Lewis, the top-ranked small forward in the country. An elite defender, the New Jersey native will play a key factor in the Gators success this year and could see himself in the starting five at some point.

  • Keyontae Johnson 6’5”/231 – Over the course of last year, Johnson blossomed into one of Florida’s top players. What he lacks in height he makes up in his build, and has shown to be a great rebounder. Arguably the top athlete on the team, Johnson can play big and small for the Gators.
  • Dontay Bassett 6’9”/236 – Banged up in the offseason, Bassett should be ready to roll for the Gators once the season gets in the swing of things. He can play both forward and center, making himself a valuable piece to the team against bigger lineups.
  • Omar Payne 6’10”/223 – A promising young big-man, Payne should get valuable minutes off the bench as a freshman. His wingspan and shot-blocking ability should serve as an extra asset for the Gators defensively.

  • Kerry Blackshear Jr. 6’10”/241 – The prize of the offseason transfer-circuit, Blackshear’s arrival to Gainesville quickly ramped up the expectations for this year. At Virginia Tech, the Orlando native scored 1,152 points and grabbed 616 rebounds in 103 appearances. He’s a savvy veteran and may be one of the best players in the country.
  •  Jason Jitoboh 6’11”/300 – A late edition to the 2019 signing class, Jitobah offers another big body the Gators can turn to off the bench.
  • Gorjok Gak 6’11”/244 – Currently nursing a shoulder injury, Gak projects to miss time early in the season. Should he return to full health, he gives the Gators another big-man to work with.
