Four-star Wilcoxson back on board

Florida’s 2021 class suffered a flurry of de-commitments during the Spring and the Gators staff is working to get a number of those players back on board.

That work paid dividens on Saturday when Lilburn (Ga.) Stephenson defensive back Kamar Wilcoxson‍ recommitted to the Gators.

After backing off his pledge in late April, the four-star prospect returned to Gainesville for Friday Night Lights. However, an onlooker not familiar with recruiting might have mistaken him for already being a commit based on the way he was dressed: Gator gear from head to toe with a Chucky doll to top off the look.

Wilcoxson drove down from the Peach State with quarterback Carlos Del Rio‍, who committed after the event. Wilcoxson jumped back onboard less then 24 hours later.

“I wanted to get back down here,” he told Inside the Gators Friday evening outside of the stadium. “It’s always good times back here… good vibes.”

He did not participate in the camp, but socializing with other prospects, commits, players, and coaches gave him intangible notes for his recruitment outside the white lines.

“The coaches are actually recruiting me harder than they did when I was committed,” he laughed. “That shows me I’m a priority.”

He’s equally impressed with the team on the field, as well.

“Florida is the real DBU,” he said. “Yeah you can look at all the draft picks and stuff, but I play football. I know where the best players are.”

Though he is only entering his junior year of high school, the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder wanted to make a decision sooner rather than later and listed LSU, South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee as his other finalists.

When it comes to taking official visits, Wilcoxson says Florida will definitely get one, but he is trying to figure the rest out.

He is the No. 219 ranked prospect in the nation according to the 247 Sports Composite.
