FLORIDA FOOTBALL & RECRUITING COVERAGE
Tune in throughout out the day, evening and weekend for wall-to-wall coverage of Florida's Friday Night Lights Camp.
At the start of his visit to Florida Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern three-star quarterback Carlos Del Rio told Inside the Gators that though Florida was his clear leader, he planned on waiting to make a commitment until halfway through his junior season – sometime around October.
By the end of the night, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound prospect left Gainesville a member of the Gators 2021 recruiting class.
Del Rio was impressive all night, standing out as the top performer in his position. He discussed his performance after the camp.
“It was a great visit,” Del Rio said. “I liked how everything was set up and I performed well during the event. I think coach Brian Johnson was really satisfied with my performance.”
Throughout the event, the rising junior received coaching tips from coach Johnson. Del Rio explains what his future quarterbacks coach was saying.
“He was telling me I was throwing the ball great. He wanted me to get the ball out without a hitch as well,” Del Rio said.
One of the main reasons for his commitment is his relationship with Dan Mullen and Johnson.
“It’s a great relationship. We talk about football, things off the field and the relationship is just great,” Del Rio said.
The Gators beat out Arkansas and Oklahoma for the nation’s 12th best quarterback prospect in the country and continue to gain momentum on the recruiting trail in the next recruiting cycle.
Del Rio is the No. 273 rated prospect in the Class of 2021 according to the 247 Sports Composite.
