Florida football added many talented defensive pieces during the 2019 recruiting cycle, one being North Palm Beach (Fla.) Benjamin four-star defensive back Kaiir Elam.
Florida had to fend off Georgia late during the process, despite Elam's love for the Gators and their staff throughout the recruiting process. However, the he could not be happier to be a Florida Gator, as you'll see in this edition of Getting to Know.
Let's start with an easy one, why did you choose Florida?
"Just the night before, I weighed my pros and cons for each of my top three schools. Florida had the most pros and the least amount of cons.”
All good things to know. Which NFL player do you liken yourself to the most?
"Patrick Peterson. He has all the intangibles I have, big, long corner that is fast. He's had so much success in the NFL and I just want to be better."
That being said, what do you think you can add to the Gators football team as a freshman?
"I definitely think I can come in with a great work ethic and my willingness to be great will rub off on the other players. I want to come in and compete. I love to compete, so I want to make my teammates better each and every day."
If you could pick any jersey number, what would it be?
"Number five. I was born Cinco de Mayo and it's always been my favorite number growing up."
Kind of going off of that, who are you looking to room with once you get on campus this Summer?
"It's four of us coming up this Summer A and we will all be staying in the same dorm. Those people are Kris Bogle, Trent Whittemore and Lloyd Summerall."
So now, I’ve got some more fun questions for you. Staying with football, if you were to get drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft, what would your first purchase be and why?
"I would first put my money in the bank, but my first purchase would be paying off all of my parents debt."
That’s a really terrific answer. Beyond that, what would three things on your bucket list be?
"Definitely be a top-three pick in the NFL draft. Second, win the Jim Thorpe Award. Finally, have a long and successful career in the NFL and hopefully use that money to start my own real estate business."
Good answer. What are your favorite movies and music?
"I'm a big Fast and furious guy when it comes to movies. For music, I like NBA Youngboy, 21 Savage and Kodak."
If you could tell Gator Nation anything about you that they’d be surprised to hear, what would it be?
"I'd definitely tell Gator Nation to expect me to make a lot of plays this year as a freshman and definitely stand out."
