Getting to Know: Keon Zipperer

May 1, 2019 | 0 comments

Florida football added many talented offensive pieces during the 2019 recruiting cycle, one being Lakeland (Fla.) four-star Keon Zipperer‍. The four-star tight end, who waited until the last minute, making his decision on ESPN during National Signing Day in February, chose the Gators over the Miami Hurricanes.

The Lakeland native could not be happier with his choice, as you'll see in this edition of Getting to Know.

Let's start with an easy one, why did you choose Florida?

"After I took my official, that's when I really knew I wanted to go to Florida. Ever since my 10th grade year and until about a week before Signing Day, I was feeling Miami. I took my official to Florida and was still feeling Miami, but after my Miami official something didn't feel right. You'd have to be in my shoes to know, but something just didn't feel right. After I committed to Florida and saw the coach's reaction, I dodged a bullet.”

Which NFL player do you liken yourself to the most?

"I don't look at NFL players when discussing who I liken myself most towards, I grew up playing high school ball with [former Florida signee] James Robinson. So, I really idolize James and looked up to him through 10th and 11th grade.

That being said, what do you think you can add to the Gators football team as a freshman?

"Just know I'm coming in to work. I'm going to give everything I can to play."

If you could pick any jersey number, what would it be?

"Number nine."

Kind of going off of that, who are you looking to room with once you get on campus this summer?

"Lloyd (Summerall) and Deyavie (Hammond). Them boys coming up with me from Lakeland."

So now, I’ve got some more fun like questions for you. Staying with football, if you were to get drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft, what would your first purchase be and why?

"My first purchase would be getting my momma a house whereever I am drafted. Where I come from, we didn't come up in big houses, we lived in apartments. So, that would be something I would want to do for my mom."

That’s a really interesting answer… I’ve never heard that before. Beyond that, what would three things on your bucket list be?

"Dang, this a tough one. One of my things would be diving down to the bottom of the ocean and come back up alive. Next, I would like to play LeBron [James] in basketball. I can take him. I just gotta keep fouling him to make him mad. My last one would be learning how to be a pilot and flying planes."

If you could spend a day with anyone, who would it be?

"I would hang out with Odell Beckham Jr. Nah, nah, I would actually choose Jalen Ramsey."

Good answer. What are your favorite movies and music?

"I like NBA Youngboy, Lil Baby, Gunna and MajorNine. I also listen to Meek Mill. For movies, I like All-American the show on Netflix. I like Brotherly Love, Lottery Ticket, Like Mike one and two. Also, Amateur and Carter High."

If you could tell Gator Nation anything about you that they’d be surprised to hear, what would it be?

"I don't wanna be judged, but I got gold in my mouth because I am really cool person. But, there's nothing really nothing surprising about me."
