The Gator football staff is gearing up to host a slew of important 2020 prospects this Saturday.
One of the names on that list is Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood three-star corner Jahquez Robinson, who tells Inside the Gators that although visiting Gainesville is not necessarily new territory to him, he is ready to get to campus.
“I’ve been to Florida a couple times because my cousin (Kavaris Harkless) went so I mean I’m familiar with it,” he said. “This time I’m ready to meet the coaches though. I’ve already met Torrian Gray and Coach [Dan] Mullen and I’m excited to meet David Turner.”
Just last week, Mullen and Gray paid Sandalwood High (and Robinson) a visit. However, the three-star prospect says Gray has been recruiting him hard since he got hired by Florida.
“When he first got to my school, Coach Grey hit me up on Twitter. Ever since then, we’ve talked every day. We’re actually getting really close.”
According to Robinson, Torrian Gray is basically singlehandedly keeping the Gators in the mix. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder holds offers from a number of SEC heavyweights, as well as schools in the Big 10 and 12.
“Florida didn’t really recruit me before Gray got there,” he admitted. “But as soon as he got there, he started recruiting me heavy. I was actually his first offer when he got to Florida, which means a lot to me. He said he saw my tape and said that there was nothing he didn’t like. I really like him a lot and now that we talk every day, we know each other pretty well.”
Robinson said that while Florida is one of his top schools, there are several other big-name schools he’s zeroing in on.
“Definitely LSU,” he said. “Oklahoma is in there too. Then Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Florida.”
When asked what he wants to see this weekend, he replied that showing his interest in the program tops the list.
“People think Florida isn’t really in it for me, but they’re on my list of top schools. I’m interested. Especially now, because of Coach Gray and Coach Mullen.”
Gray seems to be the primary recruiter of the corner, but Robinson says his relationship with the Head Coach is pretty strong, too.
“He likes me,” he laughed. “He lets me know they’re interested in me. He’s also super down to earth, which I’ve noticed a lot of other head coaches aren’t. So I really like that a lot about Coach Mullen, even though we’ve only talked a few times.”
One moment of Mullen’s in particular sticks out to the junior, even though he wasn’t there to witness it.
“The Vandy game,” Robinson recalled. “I remember he was really fired up at halftime about how his players needed to perform better. That’s something I really liked. I can really vibe with that.”
Although he doesn’t have strong relationships with the players yet, Robinson does know a guy who will don the orange and blue next season.
“Kingsley Eguakun went to my high school. I haven’t talked to him recently, but he did DM me on Instagram when he committed to UF. I’m planning on talking to him when I get there. Me and Carson Beck, who’s also from Jacksonville.”
