Florida football’s 2019 linebackers class is considered one of this year’s deepest groups, featuring signatures from several elite players. One of them being Mount Dora (Fla.) Christian Home & Bible School three-star Jesiah Pierre
Pierre, who signed with the Gators on the first day of the Early Signing Period, gave the program his verbal commitment in back in July. He actually flipped to Florida less than two months after de-committing from Miami, a school he had been verbally committed to for almost two years.
Pierre’s word always seemed to be one of the strongest from the incoming class, but the baby Gator solidified that when he took an official visit to Gainesville the weekend of December 7th and called it “the best college visit [he had] ever had.” Pierre will be on campus in January.
Pierre spoke to Inside the Gators about everything from his college decision to the things that have shaped him into the man he is today in this edition of Getting to Know.
You had a lot of offers from top schools. What was the reason you chose Florida?
“Florida felt like home to me. I had a really great vibe around the atmosphere.”
Which NFL player do you liken yourself to the most?
“I would say both Von Miller and Ray Lewis.”
Who is your favorite college football player of all time?
“[Former Clemson quarterback] Deshaun Watson.”
What do you think you can immediately add to the Florida Gators football team?
“Honestly, I’m not really sure yet. I just want to help the team win.”
Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
“My mom because she doesn’t give up after all the adversity she has been through in her life. She taught me never to give up on the things I want in my life.”
What’s your favorite kind of music and who are your favorite artists?
”I’m very open with my music… it’s really whatever sounds good to me. I just add to my playlist and vibe.”
What are three things on your bucket list?
“Number one would be to be a better man in my life. Two is to play the best I can as a freshman and help the team win games. Three would be to win a National Championship at Florida and make history as a player.”
What’s something Gators fans would be surprised to find out about you?
“I’m good at track and field.”
(OG aside: It’s true! Pierre brought home a gold medal in boy’s discus at the 2018 FHSAA Class 1A state track and field championships!)
What are some of your hobbies and interests?
“Eating, watching Netflix, sleeping, and doing activities on the lake.”
As far as academics go, do you have a major in mind or are you going to explore for a little before you make a decision?
“I’m planning to major in business.”
