Only God knows where Hunter will ultimately sign

Derick Hunter‍ still plans to put a pen to paper next month. But as the Early Signing Period looms closer and closer, the Florida State commit is undecided about where to spend his college career.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound defensive end out of Ft. Myers tells Inside the Gators that a Tuesday evening in-home visit from Florida head coach Dan Mullen and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham is keeping the Gators in the mix for his services.

According to Hunter football itself was one of the least-pressing topics of the night.

“We really talked academics most of the time,” said Hunter.

Beyond that, the four-star prospect took the familial aspect of the program into account.

“If I choose Florida,” Hunter lamented, “Zuniga could be a good mentor towards me and show me a lot and I really appreciate that.”

As for his thoughts on the school in Tallahassee, the commit was relatively quiet to ITG. When asked about his thoughts following the UF-FSU matchup where the Gators took the win 41-14, the Dunbar High School senior said he had thoughts, but asked if he could skip the question with a hearty laugh.

When asked to identify the strengths and weaknesses of both teams, Hunter said this…

“The only weakness that Florida had was the goal-line that’s it.”

However, he did reveal that his strong relationship with Florida State Head Coach Willie Taggart was the reason for his commitment.

Hunter said that he is done taking visits and is just focusing on getting ready for the All-American game and gearing up for college.

As to whether Florida could possibly be his ultimate desitination on Signing Day, Hunter responded, ‘Only God really knows what will happen.”
