Our rookie wide receiver Jean is saying great things about Mertz in the chat.

If Mertz can be like Burrow there’s no reason we can’t win 9-10 games.

Look, if there is ever a time for unfettered, unadulterated enthusiasm, it is now.

My take on Mertz – based on his statistics – is he has been an average passer and below-average runner over the last four years at Wisconsin.

Will he be the same at Florida, or better, or even worse?

I don’t know.

We’ll get a glimpse of what Mertz can do in the spring – and we’ll either feel better or worse about his addition then.

I wouldn’t go as far as to compare him to Burrow (many did the same thing when former OSU quarterback Miller transferred to UF last year) – because those are unique situations and talents.

If Mertz or Miller can hand off and not throw picks they will be game managers.

That means we need the defense to step up.

I only see a positive.

There’s nothing wrong with receivers having confidence in their quarterback.

Even if he’s wrong it’s still a good thing for us to have players uplifting each other.
