Beginning at approximately 1:30, the basketball team will be holding an open practice for members of the media. Follow along with this thread for live updates, videos and observations.
Golden just led the team in a few ball-handling drills. Now they’re doing a drill in which guys come off off-ball screens in the corner, run a dibble handoff and kick it back out to the wing for 3.
Will Richard and Kyle Lofton are today’s non-participants. Both are here, on the court looking on at drills, but neither are dressed out. The good news is neither is in a cast or boot and neither are displaying any signs of an injury. Richard is coming off of one, so they’re likely being cautious with him. Not sure why Lofton is out.
Listing Trey Bonham at 6’0 seems generous. That said, the shortest Gator on the roster has been one of the most impressive today. A few big threes and the play of the day thus far on a play where he hit Kugel cutting baseline.
Alex Fudge has hit the floor going for a steal on multiple occasions today. The defensive fortitude teammates and coaches speak of has been on full display.
Something to note about this team under Golden is that they undoubtedly carry the “reward over punishment” mantra. After bad shots and passes, guys unfailingly encourage and bring each-other up. Whether that style of response is for the best or not, well, remains to be seen until the season gets going. But, that appears to be the Golden way.
