Klatsky and Jones are the first players out on the floor. Klatsky is shooting with Taurean Green.

Looks like almost the entire team has made it out for the team shoot around.

Kyle Lofton, who is battling an injury, has yet to arrive

Lofton has arrived, did not participate in shoot around.

      Team back in locker room

Asst. Coach working on a defensive install.

First five- Lane, Kugel, Jones, Castleton, Fudge.

Second five- Aberdeen, Richard, Reeves, Felder and Jitoboh.

Rest of the team is scout offense

Defensive set is light trap work. Focusing on getting guys to the ball. Not super fast paced

That was just the warmup. Practice is beginning with regular stretches and whatnot

Kyle Lofton is not participating in practice today. He does not have a brace or anything and is doing short-range shots, but not much else

Team is now working on alley-oops and kick-outs. Castleton the obvious best dunker in the group I’m watching, Reeves the best shooter

      Groups have now switched sides.

New group on my side: Aberdeen, Felder, Fudge, Kugel, Richard, May, Szymczyk

Miscommunication on the drill but Golden is ok with it.

Fudge was supposed to dunk, instead kicked it out to Richard who was mid-shot (two balls in the drill). Richard drilled the 3 as the errant pass hit in

“And-one!” Followed by more praise from Golden

Once again- Fudge can light it up in the air. Multiple big dunks. Aberdeen with some nice ball placement on the alley-oops

Castelton, Jones, Bonham, Jitoboh, Lane, Reeves and Klatsky are running offensive sets on one side of the floor. “High-low” work with Castleton and Jitoboh appears to be something the team is experimenting with.

      Argentina Drill time:

White- Klatsky, Jitoboh, Jones, Szymczyk, Kugel, Fudge, Reeves

Blue- Lane, Bonham, Aberdeen, Richard, May, Castleton, Felder

Jones and Klatsky are out. Great tags by Blue Team. Bonham leading out there l.

White team wins, though, blue to run

I haven’t been out at all of the practices, but I will say, Jitoboh’s 3-Pt shooting has improved tremendously. Never thought I would ever type that sentence.

Teams working on quick 3-Pt rally.

It’s hard to believe- but Jitoboh has been the best shooter for the white team so far. Klatsky had been good too.

Looks like Reeves is having an off-day

Clear blue win on the 3-Pt shooting. White to run.

Team split into 2 for a 5-minute three point shootout competition. Half on one hoop, half on the other. Each bucket is 3 points. Final score was 127-121…

      That’s a lot of buckets.

    • #23784
      Cam Parker

Will Richard’s knee does not look like a problem so far. Looks very mobile and quick despite it being wrapped up

    • #23785
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Felder and Castleton doing a heck of a job trapping Jack May, forced a shot-clock violation.

Extremely active hands-on approach to the defense

    • #23786
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

May responds with a 3-Pt in the face of Alex Fudge. Nice bounce-back for the walk-on

    • #23787
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Excellent defensive play by Myreon Jones. Active hands poked the ball loose and out of bounds while guarding Felder

Alex Fudge’s length defensively is impossible to miss. Broke up what should’ve been a wide open Aberdeen layup with a quick swipe to create a loose ball. He’s out on the perimeter against guards and in rebounding over bigs in the paint. If he can develop a consistent offensive game, the potential is up there.

    • #23789
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Niels Lane and Colin Castleton team up on the trap passed the 3PT line and forced a shot clock violation on Aberdeen.

Defense-focused drill and the defense is winning.

Kugel immediately poked it loose from Klatsky on the next possession.

Something asst. coach Kevin Hovde is really getting on the guys about is pressuring the ball at the top of the key — not letting the opposing guard hold it long enough to set an offense up.

    • #23792
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

From how practice is organized, the rotation is getting close to being set (at least starters and backups are being separated from the bench depth)

Aberdeen, Klatsky, May and Szymczyk look to be the primary depth/bench/scout players.

Unclear as to starters/backups, but I imagine the obvious ones are Castleton, Reeves and Fudge. Hard to gauge until Lofton comes back

    • #23793
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Trey Bonham has been the primary point guard throughout practice.

Jones and Richard also working their, but I imagine they’ll get more work at the 2 once Lofton is full-go.

This is probably the biggest question mark heading into the season, and it will be one that can’t be answered until Lofton comes back

    • #23794
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Bonham doing a nice job commanding the offense. They switched sides. Backups/scout are on defense trapping, starters/immediate backups on offense.

Offensive-focused drill on passing out of traps.

Bonham did a nice job passing out and staying deep. Hit a wide-open three

      Zackary Weiss

Castleton and Fudge getting a lot of work in the high post, with guys like Felder and Jitoboh low. Seems like CC & Fudge are the guys Golden trusts most in that position making decisions with the ball in their hands.

    • #23796
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Jones is the other point guard and has split time with Bonham.

Kowacie Reeves with a clean pump fake and step-back three. Completely foiled May. Nothing but net and earned the praise of Taurean Green, who’s standing underneath the basket

    • #23799
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Bonham is nice at the 1. Good cut inside, drew a double-team and pass split btwn the defenders. He’s looking really good

Will Richard’s shots have not fallen. Going to take some time after dealing with a knee injury

Golden’s offense looking like it will heavily involve Castleton with the ball in his hands around the free throw line making decisions off different actions.

Yes, with Golden will likely come that fast-paced, almost Warriors-like offense people are expecting — lots of cutting and shooting.

HOWEVER, could Castleton play a bit of the Draymond roll in that? As the primary decision maker? It’s something interesting to think about, at least.

    • #23802

Correction from earlier: Reeves’ left knee is taped up. Richards has the area around his right knee taped

Reeves just missed a dunk in a drill and started doing pushups on the sideline, seemingly without being asked or told to.

Aberdeen is the team’s third PG at the moment. So far, depth chart looks like

      1. Bonham
      2. Jones
      3. Aberdeen

This will obviously change once Lofton comes back (I’d imagine Jones would focus more on the two when Lofton returns).

Team is now working on a press break. Practicing going straight into their offense out of it.

    • #23807

      ITG Staff

      Specific-position roster as it appears:

      This is not a depth-chart

      PG- Lofton, Bonham, Aberdeen
G (two spots)- Reeves, Richards, Lane, Jones
      F- Fudge, Kugel, Felder
      C- Castleton, Jitoboh, Szymczyk

Keep in mind- there will be sets where two of the PGs or even Castleton and Jitoboh are on the court at the same time or there are three forwards on the floor instead of three guards, but positionally, guys appear to have found their homes

Golden’s team to start today’s set of scrimmages:

      Trey Bonham

      Kowacie Reeves
      Alex Fudge
      Colin Castleton

Kowacie Reeves with a really nice up and around lay-in.

Three pointers haven’t fallen as consistently in the scrimmage setting, but the players have done a nice job adjusting

      Team White (non-Golden team):

      Aberdeen
      Jones
      Richard
      Lane
      Jitoboh

Szymczyk and Felder depth for that team

Felder came in off the bench and had a tremendous bucket underneath the basket with the defense surrounding him

Myreon Jones just made what was probably the best singular pass I’ve seen in training camp up to this point – finding Felder on a no-look from the top of the key down to the baseline under the right side of the rim.

    • #23815
      Cam Parker

Nice steal by Jones and hits Aberdeen underneath the basket.

Solid day for the two guards

      Blue team lineup:

      Bonham
      Reeves
      Kugel
      Castleton
      Jitoboh

Expect to see Jitoboh and Castleton on the floor together plenty this season.

Jitoboh focuses on inside with Castleton taking what is the traditional PF spot

Myreon Jones has had a great practice today — maybe his best yet in the Orange & Blue. Not scoring the ball, but garnering steals and assists on what feels like every play.

    • #23818
      Cam Parker
      ITG Staff

Castleton and Jitoboh team up for the bucket. Nice over the shoulder pass from Castleton, Jitoboh spins and hook shot, fouled by Felder, and-one

Castleton went crazy for his teammate

    • #23819
      Cam Parker

The point guards are winning the day. Bonham with the steal, split defenders on the offensive end, faked Jones completely and hit a wide open Jitoboh underneath the basket.

The Gators may have found their point guard

    • #23820
      Zackary Weiss
      ITG Subscriber

Bonham just faked the entire defense out of their shoes, finding Jitoboh on a no-look bounce pass from the FT-line area to the bottom-right block. This came immediately following Jones nearly forcing a turnover off him.

    • #23822
      Zackary Weiss

This was the best offensive practice yet in my eyes. Toward the end, the ball was moving around quickly and guys were consistently where they were supposed to be in offensive sets. The ball was finding the open man and only good shots were being taken.

It’s taken some time, and will take more to get where Golden wants it to be, but it’s impossible not to see the progress being made. His vision is coming to fruition and guys seem to be really buying in.

By the fact alone that practice ended with purely a team huddle and devoid of any sprints, he felt the way I feel about today’s work. It was one of the good ones.

    • #23823
      Zackary Weiss

That marks the end of today’s practice.
