Cam ParkerITG StaffDue to Hurricane Ian hitting the state and projected to hit the Gainesville-area on Thursday, Florida is adjusting their media availability this week. Billy Napier will be meeting with the media via Zoom at 5:30, an hour earlier than usually. Additionally, no players will be made available, a change from regular weeks.

He reiterated that they moved the schedule up due to the storm quickly arriving. Despite the sudden change, he said that the last two practices were two of the team’s best.

Napier said that the players will be completely off tomorrow to take shelter for the storm, and will return to work on Friday.

On the players balancing focus on their families during the storm vs. focusing on the game. “No. 1, just making ourselves available.”
Said that Gator Made, led by Vernell Brown, have taken initiative to be available to the players’ families. Said most of the help will come post-storm.

Jaydon Hill and Kamari Wilson will be starting at corner and safety on Sunday.
Napier said he has a ton of respect for Hill for fighting back after multiple injuries. Said he stood out during spring when he was still recovery.
On Trey Dean III: he’s injured and won’t play on Sunday.

On replacing Trey Dean III: Said it will be a balance of Kamari Wilson and Donovan McMillon, even though Wilson will get the start.

On the big-picture goals: Napier said the goal is a culture that will set up players for success off the field, and the results will follow that.

On defensive communication: Napier said that it has improved this summer, but the team is still learning, mostly due to the youth at the linebacker and safety spot.
On whether or not they will simplify the defense or expect the newcomers to learn quickly, he said that he wants them to be versatile with communication, so he wants them to step up.

Napier expressed the need for his team to eliminate bad football. Said that there were 12-15 plays at Tennessee where Florida beat Florida.
