Said going into the second scrimmage is extremely important because you still can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel of camp.

On team photos and the ratio between staff and players:
“I think we try to make a concerted effort to involve everyone in the team photo.”
Said that inflated the numbers, but he’s excited by the infrastructure they have.

On hiring former HS coaches in the state of Florida:
Said it creates opportunities to build relationships with current coaches in the state, which affects recruiting. There are some rules, but they found avenues to make those hires happen and plan to continue to do that in the future.

On players who aren’t starters but stand out: Tyreak Sapp and Austin Barber. Napier said they are starters in his mind, even if they aren’t on first team. They will see plenty of playing time.
As far as the freshman (AKA rookies), Napier says Shemar James is in that group.
On the progress with injuries, mainly Pearsall and Marshall Jr. :
“We’re very pleased with what we saw yesterday.”
Says they’re going the workload is going to increase incrementally and will use this week as a trial week before game week.

On Caleb Douglas: Said Caleb made some good plays in the scrimmage. Says his experience playing QB in HS gives him some good traits.

On the physicality of the team and if they are prepared for Utah: “I think our practice in environment requires that.”
Says they’re able to play hard but play safe. They won’t know truly how physical they are until they play Utah.
On the red hulk statue in his office: “That is a gift from Louisiana.”
Said it showed up in his office after his bowl game as an honorary mascot (“Ragin’ Cajun”) since the school didn’t have one.

On the defensive line room: Said that room was one of the inexperienced rooms that made big progress.
Said Princely Umanmielen and Tyreak Sapp stood out the most.
“They’re nowhere near where they’re growing.”
On Sharrif Floyd returning to coach: Said he’s been nothing but helpful, has big character and takes pride in his role.

On Trevor Etienne:
Said his low center of gravity helps him make plays and he’s an extremely hard worker.
“The guy shows up and works. He’s from Jennings, Louisiana. Guy shows up here and thinks it’s New York City.”
On the game prep:
“I’ve felt a lot better before (about game prep). I will tell you how I feel after the game’s over.”
Says they moved from learning how to prep for a game at UL, but now it’s an adjustment being at a new place.
