      Says most of what’s left is mental work and preparation.

      Says he believes that the staff has a good grip on game prep in a new environment. Says it’s important to stay in the moment.

      On preparing Anthony Richardson: Says that by Wednesday, they should figure out what the quarterback likes and dislikes after a few days of general game prep.

      Says that dialogue goes up until game time.

      On the players being excited for game day: “We’ve been beating up on each other for a long time.”

      Says this week has been about educating the players on game prep while preparing for a big game.

      On injuries: Says Ricky Pearsall and Jason Marshall Jr. are good to go for Saturday and have been participating the last two practices.

      On captains: Says it may vary from week-to-week as far as representation. Being named the actual team captain won’t come until the end of the season.

      Says there’s still a ton of leadership to be developed.

      Adds that game day captains are picked on Tuesday, team captains are voted on by the players at the end of the season.

      On tackling: Says it feels like they have worked on it for a while. Says it took a lot of research to prepare for practice to give the defense game-like situations, but they won’t truly know how good of a tackler a player is until game day.

      On Dante Zanders: “Where would we be without the guy right now?… What a great kid to be around.”

      Says Zanders’ story about thinking of transferring in spring but deciding to stay and switching back to tight end is an incredible story.

      Said he made the transition easy and is able to process being a tight end well.

      On Patrick Toney: Says the two of them are playing chess throughout the year when it comes to preparation. He lets Toney coach the defense, but they work together in game prep.

      On Anthony Richardson being a local hero: “Have nothing but great things to say about Anthony.”

      Said they didn’t know truly how special he was until they met him.

      Adds that he remembers AR making a few good plays in the Cotton Bowl two years ago and knowing that he was going to be special.

      On the new defensive scheme: “I think we’re very comfortable. We’ve been doing this since spring, since before spring.”

      On Patrick Toney and Billy Napier calling plays against each other in practice: “It was a lot of competing.”

      On playing for Patrick Toney: “I can’t wait. I get chills talking about it.”

      Says the new scheme helps him play faster due to it being easier to understand.

      On tackling: Says they do a tackle circuit every day, and the team has improved because of it. A lot of it has to do with Ventrell Miller being back.

      Despite major leadership in Miller, Gervon Dexter and Brenton Cox Jr. coming back, it’s still about playing hard.

      Says his focus through fall camp has bee trying to stay healthy while learning the new playbook.

      On being careful running the ball after Jack Miller’s injury: Said one goal this offseason was to stop trying to be the hero while running the ball and make the smart play, and that was before Miller’s injury. Said he’s been practicing sliding and getting out of bounds.
