As we get started here, with the ball now tipped off, what I'm really looking for is early action from Will Richard and Riley Kugel. Neither has gotten off to particularly strong starts in the team's first two games.
At the first timeout, Florida looks like, well, the Gainesville weather today. Just very drowsy. Sloppy. Boring. Samuel and Handlogten have both missed bunnies. Kugel's settling for bad shots. Richard, in his defense, is playing hard — with a lot of effort. He just can't get anything to fall.
Thomas Haugh rebounds how coaches teach you to. I really like him for what he is, and think he has potential to be really special down the line of his college career.
What have I been preaching? Get Will Richard the ball in shooting positions. Early and often. He can't create for himself, but he is such a lethal catch-and-shoot guy; it amazes me that Todd Golden doesn't make it more of a priority to run off-ball stuff for him.
I said it night 1 and i'll say it again now: Aberdeen's the best perimeter defender on this team. If he can ever get it going on the offensive side of the ball, he could seriously become a major factor for this team going forward. And he clearly has the skill to. Just needs to find his groove.
