Quick Pregame stats/notes (Florida):
Florida's last outing against LSU saw the Gators lose 64-58 and move to 0-3 in SEC-play for the first time since the 1981-1982 season.

During that 1981-1982 season, Florida started 0-11 in SEC-play before defeating Auburn 69-66 on Feb. 6.

That 0-3 start was Florida's toughest stretch of the season as they played three-straight ranked teams. The Gators do not play ranked teams back-to-back the rest of the season.

All-time, Florida is 46-28 against the Gamecocks, but 3-6 under Mike White. Florida's last win was two seasons ago in an 81-68 victory on Jan. 7, 2020 in Columbia.

ESPN's Basketball Power Index gives the Gators a 58.4% chance to win with the line at -4.5 in favor of Florida.

Player to watch: the point guards (Tyree Appleby, Myreon Jones and Brandon McKissic)
  • In his weekly press conference, White stressed the needs for the point guards to play better in their decision making. Mainly, he said they needed to turn the ball over less.
  • In the loss against LSU, the three guards combined to shoot 7/21 (33%) from the field for 12 points

Quick Pregame stats/notes (South Carolina)
Similar to Florida, South Carolina started off the season strong, but have fallen since SEC-play began. In three games, the Gamecocks are 1-2 with the lone win coming against Vanderbilt by a score of 72-70. Both of their losses were against ranked opponents (Auburn and Tennessee)

At home this year, South Carolina is 7-1 with the loss to Auburn.

In ten seasons, head coach Frank Martin is 163-169. Against the Gators, Martin is 6-6, including a win in the 2017 NCAA Tournament in the Elite 8. At home against the Gators, Martin is 3-3.

Player to watch: dynamic duo guards (Erik Stevenson and James Reese V)
  • Stevenson: 11.3 ppg (leads team), 4.7 rpg, 2.6 apg (leads team)
  • Reese V: 10.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.8 apg

Early shooting

Florida: 3-5 (2-2 3pt)
South Carolina: 2-8 (0-1 3pt)

Strong start for the Gators in an area that has been abysmal to say the least.

Strong start as well for freshman Kowacie Reeves: leads all scorers with 5 points (2/2 FG, 1/1 3pt).

Reeves made his first start against LSU and went 1/2 with 3 points

A loss today and any hope of making the tourney is pretty much gone.

Our problem is we have no point guard.

Great defense by Jitoboh on that possession. South Carolina tries to go inside, has to pass out and misses the three.

Florida ranks top-five in multiple categories in the SEC this year (blocks per game, steals per game, etc.), but it's hard to win games with how much the offense has struggled.

White discussed the point guards this week saying they needed to play a lot better if they wanted to win. Against LSU, they shot 7/21 for 14 points (McKissic, Appleby and Jones all combined).

He mentioned shooting briefly, but mostly he talked about the need to make better decisions all around.

Another timeout on the floor after the shot-clock violation on Florida

UF: 23
USC: 14

Really bad offensive possession by the Gators with a lot of questionable passes. White discussed the need for better passes yesterday on a Zoom press conference. He said that Florida has good passers who can make flashy passes, but the overall decision making has to be better. The decision making was not very good on that possession.

Offensive woes continue for Appleby as he missed a wide open dunk, leading to a South Carolina three.

Makes up for it on the next possession with a nice pass to Castleton down low for a quick dunk.
