Mullen, with a slight sunburn from all the time outside lately, discussed the shift in offense to a a running game. Mullen says he spends a lot of time gathering information to make the best call. He finds the guys strengths and weaknesses to evaluate the best play. The injuries last year hurt much of the depth, according to Mullen. The added depth will help the Gators a lot going into the next year.

Mullen also joked about Cam Newton's viral story last week. One of the neat things for the quarterbacks is being on the headsets, so they are always involved in the game plan. "I loved the shoutout," Mullen says.

We throw a lot at the guys to see what fits well, Mullen said. Last year not having spring, there was not as much time to evaluate the team. This year, Mullen is spending extra time finding each players strength and weaknesses. Emory has seen some live play, but now in spring, he's seeing how he does in all different offensive scenarios. Additionally, the two freshmen quarterbacks are also getting in reps, Mullen says.
"We're a very quarterback-based offense," Mullen mentions.

The attitude has been great Mullen says. He's got many, many young players with some veterans stepping into the leadership roles. He said that the guys are eager to learn. They study the game looking for ways to improve daily. He sees them pushing each other, balancing the learning and playing and working together.

Mullen says that Emory has a good understanding of the offense. He is throwing new things at him to see how he adapts. I think his maturity and his understanding and what we expect out there on the field is aiding to his ability to adjust, Mullen added.

Mullen does not compare past players to present. He won't compare some one to Pitts, Toney or Trask. There are things that they will do differently. He is going to utilize the strengths of his entire team.

Quarterbacks how now become the most important person on the team. "I always thought the easier thing to do is to put a lot on the quarterback," Mullen says. They really understand the 'why' of what the team is trying to accomplish.

Jones's running game will also depending on the cast of guys surrounding him, Mullen says. He is not just playing to one person's strengths but the entire teams. He says that fans may see Jones do more out-of-the-pocket plays and one thing he does well is extend plays. He keeps plays alive and scrambles added Mullen. He says Emory's ability to improvise will play a key role in the offense matched with a cannon arm.

McGriff and Montinar are high-energy coaches. "I think we are very, very young," Mullen says. A lot of guys on the secondary have never seen spring practices. It's a young group.

Mullen also talks about the impact COVID has had all year on football. The testing and changing of everything has been impactful to his team. It affects everything according to Mullen. How we dress, how we travel, everything is different. Not knowing whether or not you will play is an emotional drain Mullen mentions. 'That is what we love to do," Mullen continued discussing how difficult it is to adjust to the pandemic. He says the sacrifices are all worth it because they get to do what they love to do.
