Todd Grantham spoke about the defensive struggles seen last year. He said some of the new, young players will aid the defense. One thing he says is important to develop in spring practice is developing their competitive toughness. He wants to see them develop a strong attitude from start to finish.

Grantham also wanted to look towards the future, disregarding the past seasons. He is eager to see how the new team will perform. Many of his players will get the opportunity to take countless reps unlike last spring when practice was cancelled.

Another aspect of the defense Grantham wants to see improvements on is eliminating the run game of the opponent.

Returning players like Carter and Miller may see less reps than new guys coming in. They have played for the Gators for a couple season so they have film they can learn from to improve. According to Grantham, those guys may see "a third of the reps," that a young guy.

Grantham spoke on Trey Dean's versatility. He thinks Dean could play in several spots on the field, but for the team, Grantham sees Dean performing the best at safety or nickel. He says those positions give him the best chances to benefit the team.

Grantham wants to see Hopper's attention to detail and consistency grow. Additionally with Wingo, he wants to evaluate his skill to find his niche on the field. Primarily, they are looking at him as an inside linebacker.

Grantham thinks the strength of this defense will be the ability to develop and grow. It's been just one week of spring practice. Grantham likes the attitude of the guys and how they want to improve from each day to the next.

Tim Brewster spoke on the departure of Kyle Pitts. He was an amazing teammate, trying to help others and share his knowledge, Brewster said. Now, everyone wants to be like Kyle now. He rubbed oof on the team, and the team celebrated his accomplishments.

He is excited about the new guys. Gamble has stepped up. He has shown improvements in the run game. The biggest thing Brewster did with Pitts was to make him a complete player, and now, he is starting to see that in Gamble. Zipperer also stepping up showing more athleticism to compliment his run game. Also, Brewster is excited about Odom. Elksnis has come in and Brewster is excited about both Odom and Elksnis when they step in.

Brewster says that he could not be more excited about practice. The weather and the attitude of the players is exciting. Now, he is trying to build the next Kyle Pitts. Pitts was the "prototype" according to Brewster. Now with several tight ends at his disposal, he sees a lot of potential.

Nick Elksnis, in his first spring practice, has a maturity about him that Brewster likes. The attitude of the football team is absolutely outstanding, Brewster says. There is an amazing attitude, amazing effort, and mazing urgency in the players in these first few practices.

Brewster discussed the recruits he has gotten out of Dade County. He is excited to go down to south Florida because the talent coming out of that area is exciting Brewster says. He says its imperative that Florida get the best players they can and sees plenty of potential in the south Florida.

Brewster also added the new-looking offense. He's excited about both Emory and Anthony. He also says that no one in the country is better at matching the system on the field to the talent of the players than Dan Mullen. "We've got weapons," Brewster says. Florida has an experienced offensive line that will only benefit the new offense.

Brewster also shared where he thinks Pitts will land in the NFL draft. He expressed that all 32 teams should be interested in Pitts. "He's got the total package," Brewster says. He thinks some temas may trade up to get a chance at drafting Kyle Pitts. "If you got an opportunity to get this guy, you better get him."

Additionally, he thinks the value in the tight end position is higher than it was ten years ago. Quarterbacks and tight ends are now being valued almost at the same level. The position has evolved. Brewster continued to explain how Pitts only enhances the offense.

We play our tight ends as wide receivers and running backs, Brewster added. The system that Dan runs is versatile with multiple options mentions Brewster.

"I'm in the dream spot," Brewster exclaimed. After Pitts' season, tight-ends from all over the country are excited. They want to be Gators. He wishes he could even take three tight-ends this year. "It's a lot of fun being the tight-end coach at the University of Florida right now," Brewster says.

Brewster says he is excited to see Emory get his time in the sun. Jones is now in his fourth spring finally getting the spot at quarterback.
