He's actually done a good job of being close to on-time lately. I'd expect him to join us no later than 12:45.

Mullen says the scrimmage went well, but they still have a long way to go. He's still seeing some sloppiness that results from the long layoff. He's excited about how they're improving, but he'd like to be further along. He really likes the effort his guys are playing with; now it's a matter of putting it all together. They'll go a little lighter this week to allow for recovery.

He says the next couple of weeks are going to be a big mental grind to get ready to play. He says he'll reach out some NFL teams and other college coaches to see how they've handled the oddities surrounding this season.

He says there "was better football played" in this scrimmage versus the first one. It was cleaner, but there were still little mental errors made. It was more consistent but not consistent enough for an SEC game.

He says they've been "pretty physical up to this point," and they'll scale back a bit and focus more on conditioning and lifting over the next two weeks to help make up for the conditioning they lost this summer.

Mullen says they've gone from one day off a week with two hours of film that day to 20 hours a week during camp this year. He adds that they lost maybe half of what they would normally do. Walkthroughs and post-practice film sessions have been eliminated. Basically, they're operating on a game-week schedule during camp.

He says one of the things they'll discuss with other coaches is what effect, if any, the lack of atmosphere had on their teams.

He says they "got a couple guys banged up" in the scrimmage. He wants to see who's able to go after this lighter week of practice.

He still hasn't decided who's going to start at center. He's more focused on creating depth and the best combinations.

He says Kadarius Toney has done a good job of developing as a receiver. "He's taken such a huge step forward in becoming a wide receiver for us." He'll still be a get-it-to guy, but he thinks becoming a more complete receiver will take him to the next level.

Mullen says Jordan Pouncey has dealt with some injuries and is a little behind the other receivers. They still haven't heard from the NCAA on his eligibility waiver either.

He says he always hopes they're better in Week 4 than Week 1, not just this year because of the virus. He thinks his guys have worked hard with a good attitude to put themselves in a good position.

He says he thought they would be a run-heavy team last year, but that obviously flipped. Their plan is to be 50-50 this year, but they'll be flexible and adjust as needed.

He says they'll never try to slam a square peg into a round hole. They'll adjust and do whatever it takes to make their guys successful.

Mullen says they have about 15 guys in the rotation at the return spots, mostly running backs, defensive backs and receivers.

He says they try to get the players that fit best in recruiting. They're looking for the best students and people in addition to athletes. They run a pro-style offense and their ability to create mismatches allows players to go onto the NFL and have success. He cites Van Jefferson as a recent example of this.

He's really pleased with the freshmen D-linemen. He's really excited about their skill level, but they're still trying to catch up with the lost time this offseason. He's excited about their future potential. He mentions Jaelin Humphries, Jalen Lee, Gervon Dexter, Antwaun Powell and Princely Umanmielen as standouts.

He says he's seeing improvement from guys that he's expecting to step up and create depth. He's pleased at the depth they're creating. They're trying to get as many guys ready to play as possible, and that could be a huge advantage for them this season.

He says they don't do negative recruiting because they have enough to sell. He says David Turner is not just a great coach and recruiter but a great mentor. He says the relationships that he's been able to build and his ability to develop players as men is his best quality.

He says Tre'Vez Johnson is playing STAR for them right now. He played hard in the scrimmage but is still learning the techniques and the defense. One of the things that makes him unique at that position is he plays extremely physically but has corner coverage skills. He fit the physical traits they looked for when they watched his high school film.

Mullen says Kyle Trask didn't have his best day yesterday. He got a little larger workload yesterday and wasn't quite as crisp. They're going to simplify things here in the coming weeks once they get into specific game plans, and he expects that to help him. He's improved his speed in decision-making. He sits in on game plan meetings and will have input in the game plan because of his experience. He also enjoys a lot of freedom at the line of scrimmage.

He says they held out Kyle Pitts again. They know what they have in him, and they're trying to create depth at that position.

He says we'll get the roster and depth chart during game week.

He says Kemore Gamble did a good job in the two scrimmages, and Keon Zipperer has also gotten a ton of reps. He wants to see them continue to develop.
