After including Florida on the top 13 list he released in mid-March, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa took yet another visit to Gainesville for the Gators’ Orange & Blue Game.
“Florida’s nice,” replied Mauigoa when asked about his two spring visits to UF. “Coach [Rob] Sale, he’s the man. He takes care of everything. He makes me feel like I have trust in him. I went over there to watch the spring game and the whole visit went very well.”
Not only did the 6-foot-6, 315-pounder visit Florida over the spring, he went to Miami and Michigan State as well.
He said that the visits to these three programs served two purposes.
“I wanted to see them practice and play to see how the coaches handle their business and shoot, I wanted to try to get to know the coaches better.”
The question now is will those two spring visits be enough to help land UF on his upcoming list of finalists?
“I’m going to release my final five and where I’m taking my official visits either next week or the following week,” said Mauigoa. “I don’t want to give out the list yet. Just keep posted.”
Though he didn’t go into detail and doesn’t want the particulars released before he does it himself on June 4th, he confirmed that a few SEC programs have made the cut.
When asked if there were any offensive line coaches recruiting him that he feels like he has a strong bond with, he replied, “Shoot, all of them.”
Do any head coaches stand out as far as building a relationship with him?
“Coach [Linclon] Riley (of Southern Cal), Coach [Billy] Napier (of Florida), and Coach [Josh] Heupel (of Tennessee).”
- Note: The first time he was asked he named Alabama’s Nick Saban too, but then left him off on the follow-up
Coming from America Somoa, many expect Mauigoa to play his college ball on the west coast. He himself said he doesn’t have a geographical region in mind.
“It doesn’t really matter,” said Mauigoa. “It’s wherever I feel like the coaches and can develop me to be the best I can be, not only on the field but as a person too. It’s where I can do great in the classroom. It’s going to be where I get the feeling that it is where my heart is at.”
One thing Florida has going for them is that he lined up Thursday evening for most of the Ascenders’ spring scrimmage alongside UF commit Knijeah Harris.
According to Mauigoa his linemate is constantly in his ear about the Gators.
“He’s recruiting me non-stop,” Mauigoa said with a laugh. “He’s the man. He is serious about Florida. He’s always telling me about the Gators and talking about playing together over there.”
