Florida Director of Football Strength & Conditioning Tyler Miles, Special Teams Coordinator Joe Houston, offensive tackle Austin Barber, and defensive lineman Tyreak Sapp met with the media during Tuesday’s Fall Camp Media Day.
TYLER MILES
- “The team gained 700 pounds of muscle this season, compared to 580 pounds last year. We lost around 200ish pounds of fat, which is less than last year, but I think it’s because we had less fat to lose. ” Miles on the weight difference from last year to this year.
- “McClain has put on 20-25 pounds since he arrived at Florida. He had a goal of hitting 190 in body weight, and he just did that this last week. He’s matured, and he is using his brain more; he is thinking on his own.” Miles on Cormani McClain this offseason.
- “Jadan Baugh had a fantastic summer. We have a pound-for-pound rating, and he is not only the strongest guy on the team but the strongest since we have started this metric.” Miles on Jadan Baugh.
JOE HOUSTON
- “We are looking for every competitive advantage we can get. The idea was more from Coach Napier. There is not much steam to it. I don’t have a crystal ball but I don’t see it going much further.” Houston on trying out Olivier Rioux on special teams.
- “Tommy is made for this. He has gone over and beyond any expectation we have had for him. He has playoff experience winning a national championship with Michigan. Can’t say enough good things about him.” Houston on new punter Tommy Doman.
- Houston listed 12 players who will work out as the punt returner during camp: Vernell Brown III, Eugene Wilson III, Jadan Baugh, Treyaun Webb, Tank Hawkins, Ja’Kobi Jackson, J. Michael Sturdivant, Naeshaun Montgomery, Dallas Wilson, Bryon Louis, J’Vari Flowers, and Debraun Hampton.
AUSTIN BARBER
- “We finished the season strong, and you know when we look at what we bring back it was a no-brainer for me. Seeing guys like Jake Slaughter come back and you know DG (Damien George) who I’ve played with, it’s really special.” Barber on his decision to come back.
- “It’s hard not to look at it, its kind of everywhere, but we have to come into fall camp and prove it to ourselves. Expectations are one thing, but going out there and doing it is another. We have goals of ours that we want to accomplish that some people don’t even know. So I think it’s cool to see it, but we have to prove it.” Barber on the team’s expectations.
TYREAK SAPP
- Sapp said that he is in the best shape of his life and ready for the upcoming season.
- ” I don’t want the offensive line to have a good time at practice. I want them to have to battle and fight like they would in an actual game.” Sapp when asked about practice.
- ” I think it’s 13, but I’m going for 15.” Sapp when asked about the UF single-season sack record.
