If there is a prospect in this cycle who has seemingly come out of nowhere to zoom to the top of several boards, including Florida’s, it is Gainesville (Fla.) Buchholtz four-star athlete Justin Williams, who was offered by the Gators less than three months ago.

After having already officially visited Kentucky and Indiana, the 6-foot, 190-pounder was a late addition to the Gators’ official visitor list – and ended up committing to UF before leaving campus.

He hasn’t been talked about a whole lot to this point, but Williams is Florida’s highest-rated commitment to date, currently the No. 188 ranked prospect in the nation according to the On3 Industry Composite.

QUICK Q&A

What was the highlight of the visit to UF?
“The highlight of the UF visit was chilling with the team and getting a real feel for the vibe and building my relationship with the coaches.”

What did the coaches have to say to you?
“The coaches’ message: They’re super serious about me being a key player and believe in my potential and that they didn’t just offer me because I put up some stats last season or because I’m a local guy, so they felt pressured to offer me. [They liked me for me].”

What players did you speak with and what was their message to you?
“I talked to a few guys, but mainly I spent time with Vernell [Brown III]. He and the rest of the players all said the team is like one big family and that Florida will take care of me.”

What’s next as far as any upcoming official visits?
“I have two more potential visits to FSU and UCF. I will take them unless something changes on their end.”

Where does UF stand with you right now?
“I committed today. I didn’t know if I was going public at the time, but now I think I’m ready to have it out there.”

Why Florida?
“I really feel like Coach [Billy] Gonzales can get me to where I want to go. Coach really believes in my potential to be great. I love the vibe of the team, it feels like a true family. Florida has everything you need and checks every single box. Florida is in my backyard, this place is a part of me and it wouldn’t feel right going anywhere else.”
