FOOTBALL/RECRUITING
Take us through your recruiting process. What was that like for you?
“It started my junior year when I got an offer from Mississippi State and from JUCO schools. It got quiet, but I was talking to a few schools, and then this summer it really blew up for me. I got a few offers, and then I got my offer from Florida and committed on the spot. It was Mississippi State early, and then I had Penn State and Georgia Tech right before Florida.”
Which school would you say came second in your recruitment?
“Penn State for sure. They’re a big long snapper school and the coaches there are pretty cool. They have a couple guys in the NFL currently, so they were definitely a big spot for me.”
What is the strangest thing that ever happened to you during the recruiting process?
“I didn’t have anything too wild. I guess the wildest thing is that some coaches just wanted me to commit to them super quick. I had known them for a week, and hadn’t even been on campus, and they wanted me to commit, so I could come up there and play. I didn’t know those guys; I didn’t have a relationship with them, so I thought it was kind of crazy that they just wanted to do it on the spot. So that’s probably the wildest thing I’ve had happen.”
What would you say inspired you to start playing football?
“My dad actually played at the University of Alabama. He was a snapper there, so that’s when I really started. I grew up around it, so I learned from him and really just took after him. I fell in love with it around freshman year and just worked hard.”
What is your favorite professional football team?
“My family are all New Orleans Saints fans, so probably the Saints. But I’m a big player’s guy.”
Who is your favorite player of all time?
“That’s kind of hard to think about. My dad [Drew Lane] would be a big one for me, and then I like to model my game after Luke Rhodes.”
What would you say are some of your greatest strengths as a football player?
“My consistency and my mentality. I want to go out there and compete and be better than everybody else out there. I’m chasing perfection, but perfection is something that you never reach. I’m just constantly hammering away at getting better every single day, every opportunity, and trying to become the best version of myself I can be.”
What is the most appealing part of the University of Florida?
“The staff and the relationships I had with them. I’ve known Coach [Jonathan] Galante for a little over a year, and Coach [Gunner] Hudspeth and Coach [Jon] Sumrall for a little over two years. I was pumped when I saw they got hired at Florida because I knew that was an awesome place for them, and I knew that we’re gonna be very successful there.”
What is your favorite football memory?
“Going to all these camps. I’ll win a couple and compete there. I love to compete and just go against the best in the country.”
Who have you spoken with the most from your recruiting class?
“I’ve talked to Maxwell Hiller a little bit, a big-time recruit. I’ve talked to a few guys, so we’re gonna come in, and we’ll be very impactful very early. I feel like we’re gonna bring this place back to where it’s supposed to be.”
Which current Florida players have you spoken with the most?
“Carter Milliron. I’ve been around him my whole snapping career.”
Who are you looking forward to playing with or going against in practice?
“Alec Clark, the punter. He’s awesome, and he’s gonna be one of the best in the country. He’s going to give me some good punts so I can go and hit somebody. So he’s gonna give me enough hang time to get down there and tank somebody.”
What did Coach Jonathan Galante tell you that stuck with you the most?
“He wanted me to be patient, and he told me that it’s the right fit. Be patient, come in and dominate. He said we’re gonna have you for five years and we’re gonna win a national championship. That’s what really stuck to me because I want to be a winner too.”
What kind of player do the coaches believe you can become?
“I guess the college example of Rocco Underwood. Just go out there and have that mentality to go hurt somebody and execute your job every single time and be perfect. But I want to make my own journey, so I’m going to go out there and be perfect and be and execute in every aspect I can.”
What part of your game are you working on the most right now?
“Blocking has been a big thing for me. I think that’s gonna be my best aspect coming in. So just hammering away at that and making it as good as possible as it could get.”
What are your goals for your freshman season at Florida?
“Freshman All-SEC.”
What should fans expect from you when you arrive on campus?
“I’m a good dude and I’m gonna be perfect. I’m gonna go out there and help the team the best way I can. You’lll see a few highlights of me hitting some people.”
Do you have any funny stories/moments with Coach Jon Sumrall, Coach Jonathan Galante or Coach Gunner Hudspeth during the recruitment process?
“Coach [Gunner] Hudspeth is one of the funniest dudes ever. So just hanging around with him. All of them are awesome guys. Coach [Jon] Sumrall is an awesome dude. He’s gritty and he’s the kind of coach that I want to be with. But definitely playing playing golf with Coach Hudspeth was pretty funny”
PERSONAL
What is your major going to be?
“I’m gonna do something with business. I want to open up an agency after football’s over.”
If you had to play a sport outside of football, what would it be?
“I played baseball, and I’m not gonna be able to do my senior year because I’ll be graduating early. But my junior year, we won a state championship and in the playoffs. I batted around .540. So that’s probably what I would do. ”
What is one thing that Gator nation doesn’t know about you?
“If anybody wants to play a little golf with me, I can go beat your tail if I need to.”
What would be your first purchase if you got drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?
“I want to be smart with my money, but I’ve always wanted a Porsche 911.”
What is one thing that you can’t live without?
“My family is a big thing for me.”
If you’re given the AUX in the locker room before a big game, what’s your go-to song?
“I’m a big Metallica guy. It gets me pumped up, gets the adrenaline flowing. So “Enter Sandman” would be one for me.”
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
“It was Interstellar, but now it’s Project Hail Mary.”
What are you binge-watching at the moment?
“I actually just watched all of Swamp Kings.”
What wild animal would you be, and why?
“I’m a chill guy. I’d say like a sloth. They’re not doing anything; they’re just hanging around.”
What video games do you play?
“I’m a big Minecraft guy. Minecraft, Fortnite, and then Call of Duty. Minecraft usually brings me peace, and it’s just a little calming game.”
What are you looking forward to in college outside of football?
“Being around friends and being around campus. Just having a good time in college and enjoying it. Definitely gonna branch out, see a few more sports games.”
What do you want people to think when they hear the name Jaydee Lane five years from now?
“Being a great football player and then coming in and leaving a legacy.”
What advice do you have for young players dreaming of going to college?
“I’d say just keep your head down and keep going. It’s not about who goes through hard stuff, it’s about who goes through the hard stuff and gets back up. And then of course having discipline in everything you do.”
What is your favorite quality in a teammate?
“I want respect. Respect is the biggest thing for me.”
What’s your go-to pregame meal?
“Chicken and pasta.”
If you could have dinner with anybody at any point in history, who would it be?
“Jesus. He has everything for me. I could talk to him forever.”
What three things are on your bucket list?
“Make the NFL, travel the world, and catch a Goliath grouper.”

“Apple Music.”

“Early Bird.”
Cats or dogs?
“Dogs.”

“I’d say quiet.”
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
“People who aren’t self-aware.”
What’s your hidden talent?
“I can skeet shoot really. Get me a shotgun, and I can shoot almost anything in the air.”

“Just be patient. Let everybody get in, and we’re gonna bring back a national championship.”
