Aamaury Fountain is a four-star cornerback from Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. Fountain flipped his commitment from South Carolina to Florida following the Orange and Blue spring game in Gainesville.
On the weekend of May 28th, he took an official visit to Florida that furthered his connection with the staff.
Read on to learn more about his upbringing, his recruiting process, and personal life in this edition of Getting to Know.
FOOTBALL/RECRUITING
What was your recruiting process like?
“It was crazy. I was committed to South Carolina at first, but I kept taking visits to Florida. I was just like, ‘Yeah, I’m done holding out, this is where I want to be.’ At the end of the Orange and Blue game, I told Coach [Jon] Sumrall to find me, and I told him, ‘Let’s do it coach.’”
Who came second in your recruitment?
“Honestly, I was going to commit to Tennessee before South Carolina, then a lot of the staff got fired. If I didn’t go to Florida, I was probably going to flip from South Carolina to Tennessee, but Florida just had my best interests.”
What was the most appealing part of the University of Florida?
“The staff. Hands down, the people.”
What did Coach Brandon Harris tell you that stuck with you the most?
“The thing he told me that stuck with me the most was that I’m a gamer when I’m in the right headspace. Find yourself first.”
What kind of player do the coaches believe you can become?
“Early first-rounder. It’s a miracle when the entire staff loves you.”
What was the strangest thing that happened to you during the recruiting process?
“I never talked about this before, so it’s going to go public now. UGA was my dream school, my childhood dream; I always wanted to go to UGA. When I got the offer, I tried to commit, and Coach Donte [Williams] told me no. He said it wasn’t a committable offer; he offered me just to offer me. Later on, after the rankings dropped, he hit me up and said, ‘I’m proud of you, do you still want to come?’ I was just like, ‘Nah, coach, you blew it.’ That was definitely the strangest thing that ever happened to me. He hit my agent up, and I was like, ‘Nah, Georgia you’re done.’”
What would you say inspired you to start playing football?
“It was just like an escape. I am the second youngest of eight. A lot of people in one household, I just wanted out and boom next thing you know I’m playing football.”
What is your favorite football memory?
“8th grade semifinal game, double overtime, coach came up to me and said, ‘Playmakers make plays. Playmakers make plays, go make a play,’ game on the line, and I made a play.”
What are some of your greatest strengths as a football player?
“I’m a dog. That’s pretty much it. I want it more. If I line up in front of you, I just want to bust your ass every play. I just want it more.”
What do you need to work on the most before you get to Florida?
“Tempo. I’m doing speed training right now. Tempo with my pedal and a little bit of press. Speed training definitely.”
Who have you spoken to the most from your recruiting class?
“(Laughs) Kailib Dillard, that’s my dog.”
What Florida players have you spoken with the most?
“Onis [Konanbanny]. Onis is my guy.”
Who are you looking forward to playing with or maybe going against in practice?
“I want to go against VB3 definitely. I see him going to the draft. Just going against a potential first or second- rounder. I want to play with Ben Hanks. I just see Ben and me on an island together.”
What are your goals when you get to campus as an incoming freshman?
“First, I want to help spread the gospel. I want to let the team know that we wouldn’t be here without Christ. He gave us our talent. I want to set the tone with that; I’m here because of Christ, so I want to show people that Christ lives in me. Now, football wise, I want to play as a freshman. I want to play in that Florida-Georgia game, and I want to talk shit. I want to have at least five picks. I want the Jim Thorpe [Award].”
What should fans expect from you when you arrive on campus?
“Y’all gonna have to see the personality. I goof off, and I troll a lot. I am a very outgoing person, but at the same time I get quiet too when I feel some type of way. I got a smile of gold, I be cheesing.”
Do you have any funny stories with Coach Sumrall or Coach Harris?
“I actually do. The first time I ever came on campus, I told them I would come just to come, like right after I committed to South Carolina. I was like I’ll slide just to slide. I told Coach Harris, ‘I’ll take your word for it and come see what it’s like.’ As soon as I stepped foot on campus, Coach [Brad] White, Coach Harris, and Coach Sumrall were all chatting me up. That was funny, I was dying. I was like, ‘What’s up, coach?’ I wasn’t expecting that.”
What is your favorite professional football team?
“Baltimore Ravens.”
Who is your favorite player of all time?
“Prime Julio Jones.”

What is your major?
“Business management and real estate.”
If you could play a sport outside of football, which sport would it be?
“Tennis.”
What would be your first purchase if you got drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?
“My first purchase would be land.”
What is one thing that you cannot live without?
“Jesus Christ blessed me to breathe, so him.”
You’re given the AUX in the locker room. What is the go-to song before a big game?
“Black ball.”
What is your favorite movie or TV show?
“Fast and the Furious franchise and Black Clover.”
What are you binge-watching at the moment?
“That time I got reincarnated as a slime.”
Do you play any video games? Which ones?
“NCAA, Madden, 2K.”
What wild animal would you be and why?
“I would be a great white shark. I love being alone.”
What are you looking forward to in college outside of football?
“Finding a wife. I have someone in mind, but we shall see.”
What do you want people to think when they hear the name Aamaury Fountain five years from now?
“He’s a fighter, and he doesn’t give up.”
What advice do you have for young players dreaming of going to college?
“Chase your dreams. They told me I couldn’t.”
What is your favorite quality in a teammate?
“Personality.”
What is your favorite meal to cook?
“Steak with pasta.”
If you could have dinner with anybody at any point in history, who would it be and why?
“Jesus, because I’m curious and want to know more, and my ex because I still got love for her.”
What three things are on your bucket list?
“Deep sea fishing, getting married, and seeing the Great Wall of China.”

“Apple Music.”
Early bird or night owl?
“Neither, I like sleep.”
What’s your biggest pet peeve?
“Smacking.”
Quiet or outgoing?
“Both, it depends on the people.”
What’s your hidden talent?
“Tennis.”
