Over the weekend, Florida four-star offensive line commit Peyton Miller took his official visit to Gainesville. His mother, Missy Miller, was kind enough to document the trip from start to finish with a behind-the-scenes look at what a UF official visit entails. And then, his father, Clark Miller, shared his thoughts in a Quick Q&A session.
What was the experience like returning to campus as the family of a committed prospect rather than one who was still being recruited? How was it different?
“It was very comfortable and no stress. His deal was done before he committed, so we didn’t have to talk numbers or business. We just enjoyed the visit and getting to know everyone.”
With it being a big official visitor weekend, the coaches had to spread their focus around with so many prospects and their family members on campus, but what was the interaction like with Jon Sumrall, the position coaches, and the support staff?
“They were very intentional about making sure everyone got their time. At dinners they would assign seats to make sure you were sitting with different coaches and staff. Of course Sumrall was everywhere, but we got great time with him.”
What was the highlight of the visit? Is there anything you think could be improved upon?
“Probably the dinners. The food was great, of course, but the social time and getting to know everyone was great. We got to know several players too. So that was a highlight for me. That and just watching Peyton have a great time.”
When you make a big decision like the one Peyton and you, his family make, there could be some ‘buyer’s remorse’ – wondering if it was the right choice. Here we are a month after the fact, what is the perspective from the family point of view on who he committed to? What is it like to be there in the heart of Texas after making an announcement like this? What has the feedback from the community/neighbors been like?
“Let’s just say, there are a lot of new Gator fans in Anna, TX now. Peyton is kind of a celebrity in our small community. So parents tell us all of the time how their kids want Florida Gators gear now.
“[There’s] no remorse here, especially after this visit. Yes, other coaches still call, come by, and logistics might be more challenging, and he could have signed up for the Burnt Orange or Red and Black, but we love Blue and Orange now.”
When will you return to Gainesville?
“He’ll be back soon for another OV [weekend] or two to help recruit. We’re going to try real hard to get back this fall for a home game.”
