2027 four-star receiver Anthony Jennings announced his commitment to Jon Sumrall and the Florida Gators on Saturday afternoon. Jennings is UF’s eighth overall commitment of the cycle, the second wideout to pledge to the Gators.
Inside the Gators contacted Anthony following his commitment. Here is what he had to say.
ANTHONY JENNINGS
Why did you pick the Gators?
“They have been in my recruitment since I was a sophomore. As soon as I saw Florida and the love I felt, I mean, why not? I wanted to commit the first time I stepped on campus, but I was still young. Even when the new staff came in, they made me feel welcome. I know some pieces in the receiver room, and the offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, has a great offense. I like how he moves his guys around and gets them the ball. Really, why not the Gators? So right now, I’m committing to Gator Nation.”
What are your overall thoughts on head coach Jon Sumrall?
“Coach Sumrall is a great guy, full of energy. He makes me feel welcome to the program. I’m looking forward to the future.”
What are your thoughts on wide receiver coach Marcus Davis?
“That’s my guy. I really love him. He’s the best receiver coach I’ve ever met. He taught me the ins and outs of being a man and taught me about what he did wrong through his recruitment process and life. Even when he was at Auburn and coming over to Florida, he made that transition, and I was the first guy he was recruiting. Our relationship is A1; I’m looking forward to him developing me to the next level.”
Will you take any other visits while you are committed?
“Nah, nah, I can’t take no more visits. I was actually trying to, but I know where home is, and nothing can change that. I’m not taking any more OVs. I might go to every OV for Florida.”
Who would you say came in second for you?
“Definitely Syracuse. They were actually calling me today, like 3 or 4 times, trying to tell me to hold off. Just different things like that. On the business side, just a lot of things that went into that. A lot of calls, blowing my phone up. Coach [Josh] Gattis and Coach [Fran] Brown were talking to me today, those are great guys, but I was telling them where my heart was, and where I felt like home is. So, I’m here.”
What other guys are you trying to bring into this recruiting class?
“We already got a quarterback. We got a receiver committed; we got Max Hiller. Looking forward to bringing in some more offensive linemen. One more receiver on the other side of the field, so we can both take over. I’m not a selfish guy. We can both take over this 2027 class and just be the next great receivers out of Florida. Also, a DB so we can go at it. I want a great DB to go at it every practice. We already have Amare Nugent, but we need another one.”
Jennings is the No. 291-ranked prospect in the nation according to the Rivals Industry Consensus.
