On the turnover issues…
“I thought we did a horrendous job taking care of the basketball. Played well enough at points to get ourselves a 10-point lead with 15 minutes to go, even without playing that well, to be honest. But we were valuing the ball and making good decisions. The last 15 minutes of the game, we did a terrible job that way, and I thought our defense was really poor in the second half giving up 57 percent from the field.”
On TCU’s ability to find two-point buckets…
“I thought we had some really poor mental execution of the scout. We got cut by [Jace] Posey a number of times. He’s a guy that we thought we made it pretty clear what he’s best at, which is rim pressure and cutting – a guy that hasn’t taken a three – and he killed us. We got cut a couple other times, missed some block-outs late. Just did some things that are controllable, and those are the areas we try to focus on. Again, it goes back to the turnovers and not being tough enough limiting their opportunities in the second half.”
On TCU’s defense…
“Credit to them, they’re a good team and they’re tough to go against. We just had some egregious decisions and some plays where we simply don’t value the ball very much. Again, talking to the team, that was kind of what we addressed. We’re going to be able to determine and dictate how this season goes to an extent, but the first things are obviously we need to do a better job taking care of the basketball. That can’t be a thing for us for the rest of the year.”
On the message to the team…
“That was the message: we’ve got to do a better job taking care of the basketball. We’ve got to understand that for us to be our best, we’ve got to be a gritty, hard-nosed, tough team that doesn’t allow a team to shoot 57 percent on us in a half. It’s got to be who we are, and if we’re unwilling to execute those things it’s going to be a tough year. It’s going to be up and down depending on how we shoot the ball, and that so far has obviously been an issue for us.”

On the turnover issues and the outcome…
“They have a show defense that we do not see a lot. We had not seen it this year, so it’s a little different. I thought we prepared well for the game, but you have to be tough with the ball, the way they’re in the passing lanes. I feel like we just weren’t focused enough, especially in the second half. Those turnovers lead into transition and they’re a really good transition team. I feel like we just have to be mentally better prepared for it.”
NOTEABLE
- Urban Klavžar’s career-high 20 points and Thomas Haugh’s 20 were not enough as the Gators’ 19 turnovers led to an 84-80 loss. Klavžar matched a career-best with four 3-pointers and Haugh chipped in three treys.
- Alex Condon flirted with triple-double with eight points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. He is the third Gator this decade to hit eight in all three categories, along with Haugh (2/11/25 at Mississippi State) and Myreon Jones (1/25/23 vs. South Carolina).
- Rueben Chinyelu was one rebound shy of his fourth consecutive double-double, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.
- Boogie Fland also tallied double figures with 12 points and added three steals.
- Florida falls to 2-2 all-time vs. TCU.
