Florida Gators’ interim head coach Billy Gonzales met with the media on Wednesday.
BILLY GONZALES
Billy Gonzales’ opening statement: “It was a much better day today. There were some things we needed to clean up from yesterday. I thought yesterday’s practice was solid, but there were some things we needed to clean up. We got after it today. Made the corrections, cleaned it up, and had a really good practice. I just spoke to Coach [Ron] Roberts as we were coming into the facility just now. I asked him how it went, and he said it was pretty good on the defensive side as well. Good day. I’m glad to get back home in the Swamp.”
Gonzales said that Florida has the best fans in the country, in his opinion, and the team will need them. Talked about the 17 straight sellouts.
He congratulated Trey Burton for being inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.
Gonzales called Aaron Chiles a natural fit at fullback, calling him a willing blocker, a physical blocker.
On edge George Gumbs Jr.: “He had surgery this morning, he had knee surgery this morning.” Gonzales said that he is in good spirits and he believes that it will be more than a two-week thing, meaning his season is over.
Gonzales said Caleb Banks looked pretty darn good. He called him a big body to get back in the middle of the defensive line. He said that Banks wanted to play last week.
Billy Gonzales says that he will probably call Urban Meyer tonight. When he is done with his network responsibilities on Saturda,y he will head to Gainesville.
