Napier, in his opening statement, “This week we are taking it up a notch, we’re going to practice like we are playing for a championship.”
Napier said that quarterback DJ Lagway had his best day today. He has been getting 70 throws during his modified practices. He hasn’t been taking part in 11-on-11, where there is a pass rush for him to have to contend with.
He said that sophomore linebacker Aaron Chiles is a matchup problem
Napier called true freshman receiver Vernell Brown III one of the emerging players in camp. He said that he has a chance to make an impact as a freshman.
True freshman quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. is seeing snaps with the first and second teams. Napier spoke as though he is in a battle with backups Aidan Warner and Harrison Bailey.
Receivers Eugene Wilson III and Dallas Wilson are day to day, week to week. But, to be determined.
Napier said that he has been impressed with summer enrollee, receiver Muizz Tounkara. He said that he is big and long and has playing strength. He has a chance to be really good on special teams.
Napier on the defensive line, “it’s the most developmental position on the field, and many times the new guys are not ready to play early.”
Napier on Jake Slaughter,” he is a product of his environment, and his passion for this place. He was very underappreciated coming out of high school. He’s big, long, and has a lot of power.”
Napier on Amir Jackson, “another guy who has added muscle in the offseason, he’s earned our respect because he has shown more precision and be the guy we can count on.”
Napier on learning how to catch an eye for a good player, “In my early days at Clemson, watching so much tape, I would just watch players thoroughly, and then being around Nick Saban as an assistant, watching the players he watched.”
