Over the weekend Florida added to the offer list of Pittsboro (N.C.) Northwood 2025 6-foot-3, 230-pound athlete Gus Ritchey, joining the likes of Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Penn State.

QUICK Q&A

Did you have a favorite team or player growing up? “I moved from Indiana to North Carolina when I was 9. I watched Notre Dame a lot. My favorite players were the Bosa brothers [Nick and Joey] though. They still are really.”

How did the Florida offer come about? “I talked to Coach [Jay] Bateman and he offered today. I thought they might offer soon and finally did today. He really likes my Hudl and camp film. We are going to schedule a visit soon.”

What did the Florida offer mean to you? “I’ve always really loved the thought of playing in The Swamp, so I was real excited about this offer. The fan base there stands out too. I can’t imagine what it would be like playing in front of them.”

You have some impressive early offers, but is there one or two that really caught your attention? A ‘wow’ moment? “They are always exciting, but Notre Dame was really cool because I was a fan when I was really young. Colorado really stood out because I had such an amazing talk with Coach [Tim] Brewster. This Florida offer is right up there though and I can’t wait to build a relationship with them.”

You’ve been on a number of visits, what are some of your favorites? “I loved Miami! That visit was unreal. I liked my Notre Dame visits, they are always good. I love going to NC State because I get along with them so well.”

What are some late spring and summer visits you have coming up? “I will be back to Miami, Notre Dame, NC State, and North Carolina. Florida is most definitely on the list now too. I can’t wait to get there.”

Do you have a leader or leaders or do you know of a couple of programs that will be there until the end? “I don’t have an official leader board yet but will after this summer. I hope to get an idea of a top five as soon as my junior year starts.”

When you make your decision what will be important to you? “Relationships and coaching will be major factors in my decision. I just want to have great relationships with the coaches and other recruits.”

Ritchey is unranked according to the On3 Consensus.
