Salem (Va.) 6-foot-3, 210-pound, three-star linebacker Chris Cole had already garnered over 20 offers before Florida added to his total last week.

QUICK Q&A

How did the Florida offer come about? “I spoke with Coach [Jay] Bateman and he was very impressed with me as a player and as a student. He said he wants to offer me a full scholarship. Bateman also spoke about how he would like to build a relationship that he hopes will lead to me joining the Gators. Bateman likes my size, speed, and versatility. He feels like I could come in and make an impact on defense. He definitely wants me to come down to the Swamp for a visit soon.”

What did the Florida offer mean to you? “The Gators are a powerhouse SEC program and it’s a blessing to have received an opportunity to play for such a historically great program.”

You have some impressive early offers, but is there one or two that really caught your attention? A ‘wow’ moment? “Actually every offer has had its own ‘wow moment.’ I’ve worked so hard to earn these opportunities. I’m just blessed and honored to have programs like Florida believe in me as a student athlete.”

You’ve been on a number of visits, what are some of your favorites? “I don’t have any favorites, all the schools I’ve visited so far are elite with great facilities and academic opportunities. I’m looking at details that matter to me with hopes of narrowing it down soon.”

What are some late spring and summer visits you have coming up? “I have a couple of official visits scheduled this summer with Georgia (6/16) and Miami (6/22). Also have plans to visit Notre Dame, Auburn, Alabama, Nebraska, Northwestern, Oregon, Southern Cal and some others.”

Do you plan on getting to Florida? “Yes, I’m planning to come down in May. I’m working on a specific date with my family.”

Do you have a leader or leaders or do you know of a couple of programs that will be there until the end? “I don’t have a leaderboard at this time. I’m visiting as many schools as possible so that I can narrow down my list.”

When you make your decision what will be important to you? “Great academics. Great mentorship. Great development. Great network. Plan for my development. Staff stability. College experience. Life-long connections.”

Cole is the No. 895 ranked prospect in the nation according to On3.
